Toyota has announced that it will launch its first electric vehicle production facility in Europe in Kolín (Czech Republic), not only introducing a new model line, but also expanding its battery manufacturing capabilities, which are the foundation of future mobility.
The factory will be expanded to 173,202 m². Currently, the TMMCZ plant produces the Aygo X and Yaris Hybrid models, and with an annual production of 220,000 cars, it is set to become a centre of technological transformation, with around €680 million being invested. The scale of the project takes on an additional dimension thanks to the support of the Czech government, which will allocate up to €64 million to co-finance the expansion.
Toyota currently produces the Aygo X and Yaris Hybrid models at TMMCZ, with a production capacity of approximately 220,000 vehicles per year. From November 2025, the Toyota Aygo X will be produced exclusively in a hybrid version.
With the launch of battery electric vehicle production, the plant’s capacity will increase, enabling the production of additional models as part of a multi-track strategy, and the number of direct employees will grow, bringing similar benefits to the entire supply chain, as most parts will come from Czech suppliers.
Toyota’s decision comes at a significant moment. After cooling demand in 2024, electric car sales in Europe are picking up speed again, and the market is demanding both new models and greater availability of technology.
The manufacturer’s response is clear: Toyota will launch 14 electric models on the European market by next year. This is an investment not only in a new product range, but also in the industrial ecosystem of the region, where the automotive industry is one of the main drivers of the economy.
The expansion of the Czech factory is not just another investment project – it is a signal that even the most cautious of global manufacturers can no longer delay their full entry into electromobility.
