Solaris, part of the Spanish CAF Group, has signed its first contract to supply zero emission vehicles to the United States. The order has been placed by King County Metro, a public transport operator serving the city of Seattle, Washington, and 34 surrounding communities.

Under the contract, the company will supply four electric buses: two 12-metre (40-foot) and two 18-metre (60-foot) articulated buses. The contract also includes an option to extend the order by a further 12 vehicles in the future. The first deliveries are scheduled for the second half of 2026.

The buses, to be manufactured in Poland, will be based on a specially designed electric platform that meets the stringent requirements of the US FMVSS and ADA standards. They will benefit from Solaris’s 15 years of experience in the design and manufacture of electric vehicles. The vehicles will feature advanced electric propulsion systems, proprietary battery integration technologies and innovative connectivity solutions already proven in European markets.

Javier Iriarte, CEO of Solaris Bus & Coach, underlined the importance of the agreement:
The signing of this contract is a historic moment for our company and an important step towards realising our vision as the leading supplier of zero-emission buses in North America. We are grateful to King County Metro for their confidence in our products. I am confident that this is the beginning of a long and fruitful partnership.

Dow Constantine, King County Executive, highlighted the wider benefits of the contract:
King County Metro is a leader in building a zero-emission fleet, reducing greenhouse gas emissions and improving air quality. Expanding the ranks of electric bus manufacturers in North America is an important step in this mission that will benefit our region and the country as a whole.

Michelle Allison, CEO of King County Metro, emphasised the shared vision of sustainable transport:
Our partnership with Solaris is the next step in building a zero-emission fleet that will improve the quality of life in our communities and strengthen Metro’s position as a leader in environmental stewardship. Solaris offers solutions to meet the growing needs of the North American transit market.
