Founded in Cologne in 1964, igus GmbH employs more than 5,200 people worldwide. The company achieved sales of €1.105 billion last year, with a moderate 2.5% decline in turnover and a 5% increase in the number of active customers.

The company invests heavily in innovation, as evidenced by the record number of 277 new motion plastics products introduced this year. It is also developing robotic technologies, including low-cost automation, AMR mobile robots for indoor and outdoor applications, SCARA robots and ReBeL cobots.

Together with the RBTX platform, it offers more than 200,000 automation products and provides users with free advice and application testing.

Interestingly, igus is currently working on the development of its first plastic humanoid robot based on the ReBeL Move mobile wheeled platform and the lightweight ReBeL cobot arms. The humanoid robot will be adapted to work safely with humans and will find applications in factories and customer service.

The company is dynamically expanding its global presence, including the opening of new plants and regional manufacturing and development centres in the US, China and Brazil, and the expansion of offices in Japan, Spain, Taiwan and Poland.

Investments also include the acquisition of cable and connector specialist elko Verbindungstechnik and the expansion of its own test laboratories and production facilities in Germany and Asia.

Over the past five years, the company has invested more than €350 million in the development of infrastructure, innovative technologies and automation at the Cologne plant.
