Fortescue has announced the acquisition of a state-of-the-art testing, research and engineering facility in Banbury, Oxfordshire. This new facility marks a significant step in the company’s commitment to advancing green technology and zero emission solutions.
The newly acquired facility will play a critical role in Fortescue’s expanding prototyping, manufacturing and testing capabilities, enabling the company to manage and control the majority of product testing in-house.
With access to state-of-the-art testing and control chamber facilities, the company will maintain the highest industry standards while continuing to drive green innovation.
Covering 2339 square metres, the test facility includes multiple test cells, a workshop, a battery prototype and development area and a number of test control centres.
Fortescue Energy CEO, Mark Hutchinson, said, “We are delighted to establish this new facility, which cements Fortescue’s position as a leader in green technology.
“This is a significant step forward for the company and demonstrates our commitment to building our electrification capability in the UK. For our customers, this means accelerated and enhanced support for their testing requirements, all managed in-house. Further significant investment in test equipment and services is also planned in the short to medium term”.
Engineering recruitment will begin as the facility expands to accommodate the growing green technology business.
The test, research and engineering site is strategically located close to Fortescue’s existing battery manufacturing facility in Banbury, with a 2.8 MVA power supply to support future growth.
